An introductory method for working with emotions — helps you understand your emotional reactions through the ego-state model (Parent, Adult, Child). Not classified as a clinically evidence-based method, but serves as a good entry point for those just beginning to explore themselves.

Richard Schwartz, 1980s

Working with personality "parts" — Managers, Firefighters and Exiles. The method helps establish dialogue between inner sub-personalities and restore connection with the Self — the calm core that exists in everyone.

Evidence base

Schema therapy, DBT and IFS are evidence-based methods. TA is an introductory framework.

Transactional Analysis — introductory

TA is not listed in evidence-based method registries (APA, NICE). It is a conceptual framework for understanding emotions and interpersonal patterns — useful as a starting point, but not a substitute for clinically validated methods.

Schema Therapy

Developed by Jeffrey Young (Young 1990, 2003). Recommended by the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST). Clinically validated for personality disorders and chronic depression.

DBT (Linehan)

Linehan (1993) — included in NICE (UK) and APA guidelines. The only therapy with RCT evidence for emotional dysregulation and suicidal risk.

IFS (Schwartz)

Schwartz (1995, 2021) — recognized by SAMHSA (USA) as an evidence-based practice. Over 30 RCT studies; effective for PTSD, depression, anxiety and eating disorders.
